Gone Girl (English) Movie Review by Srinath :

The film released in india after much delays on 31st October'14 with an expectation from a section of audience. Regency Enterprises & Pacific Standard budgeted it while 20th century fox distributed the movie worldwide.

CBFC :  A

GENRE :  Thriller | Drama

PLOT :-

The story starts with the missing of Nick Dunne's (Ben Affleck) wife Amy (Rosamund pike) from the morning of their 5th wedding anniversary day i.e 5th july'12. After her disappearance, nick would be investigated by a detective named Rhonda (Kim dickens) from the police department & she rapidly finds some blood sheds as evidence from their house. Side by side amy's voice over narrations from the perspective of her diary will carry the lovabe happenings of amy with nick and the quarrels they had in marriage life. Meanwhile, Nick stays with her sister Margo (Carrie coon) and a press statement by amy's parents regarding her daughter's missing will make it to trend in the news channels across new york as the dunne couple and amy's parents were journalist writers. Slowly, the police and media suspects that nick would have murdered his wife after seeing nick's activities. His sister also doubts him from the secret relationship that nick had with his teenage girl friend during a night. Rhonda will find amy's diary from the 3 clues left by her in the home. The rest forms the arrest of nick and the revelation of what really happened to amy.

PERFORMANCES(ON-SCREEN):-

Ben Affleck ( Nick Dunne ) gives his simplest way of acting in every situations. His casual dialogue delivery and the act of becoming tensed suddenly makes him a well established actor from the time of pearl harbor. Rosamund pike ( Amy dunne ) character is the central theme of the film and one should say that she is the best choice for the role . Her character becomes interesting only after the change in amy's characterization to an unpredictable shade. Kim dickens ( Rhonda ) as detective is brave enough to investigate the missing case. Neil Patrick ( Desi Collings ) was used at the right place which revealed his real dirty intention in the form of amy's ex-boyfriend. To finish in short, every character including the lawyer and nick's sister topped in performance level.

  TECHNICAL :-

Kirk baxter's editing was good irrespective of the pace in which the movie's idea was narrated. Production design by Donald graham relfects his work in the indoor environment. Jeff cronenweth's cinematography is clean with the colour and visuals needed for the picture as it was mostly taken inside the four walls with the lighting setup. Music in the form of background score by Trent renzor and Atticus ross in particular engages you in the suspense sequences and the tune sticks with the narration. In drama portions, the sound designer gives his worthy contribution.

SCRIPT & DIRECTION :-

Story is based on the novel of the same name written by Gillian flynn. The Post-marriage problems of love gets drained from the couple's heart, the diversion in thoughts, revenge and the sex issues forms the ground plot. In a drama oriented thriller, the story will be told through the dialogues and emotions. So, the continuous conversations connects well with the viewers and the tidbits of f**king jokes was enjoyed on the other side during some serious discussion scenes. The Screenplay also was adapted from the novel itself by gillian himself. The way in combining the main character's actions inside the screenplay deserves a thumbs up. Once after the main twist is revealed, there should be some unexpected turns in the last 45 mins to make the subject much more thrilling. But, it was really missing in the script more than amy's missing. David fincher, the man known for some popular cult thrillers brings you an another neatly made mystery thriller and it is sure that globally this drama would pull a decent attention from the movie buffs .

VERDICT :-

" With Gone Girl, David fincher maintains his standard of handling thrillers & this time it's between a Married Couple "

RATING :-   3.75/5
