INAM(TAMIL) MOVIE REVIEW by Srinath :

The film was released on 28th March'14 worldwide. N.Lingusamy's thirrupathi brothers distributed it in TN under the production control of santosh sivan films.

CBFC :  U

GENRE :  War Drama

PLOT :-

The film opens up with a young orphan girl rajini narrating her past life to some officer. She was living in ceylon with other teen & child refugees. They will be living as a family with their step-mother tsunami akka along with a teacher called stanley & his wife stella. An autistic young boy nandan will be added to their family by rajini & akka. Rajini & a boy named ravi were in love with each other and by the time, ravi & some more boys will join in LTTE to fight against srilankan army. Due to the bomb attacks,  everyone's tiny house & identity were demolished by the army while few were killed by them and the remaining portions will cover the sufferings of rajini & others before leaving ceylon.

PERFORMANCES(ON-SCREEN):-

Sugandha ram(rajini), a not so known actress will now gain that status and her act of portraying a tamil refugee girl will be lauded by every sector of audience. Karan(nandan) with an autism disorder make us laugh & also think in some intellectual scenes. Saritha(tsunami akka) after a long time made her screen presence in a good reachable role. Karunas(stanley) in a contrast character than his previous films where he acts more and jokes rarely. Shyam sundar(ravi) does what eventually needed from him. Others with their eyes longing for an end and the srilankan tamil slang were actually good.

TECHNICAL :-

Editing by T.S. Suresh is neat. Vfx by gemini is decent but it can have much more original look in the intermission firing scenes. Sound, costumes & production design helped the film to give a real war atmosphere. Cinematography by santosh sivan is clear as a crystal with the red epic camera bringing the nature of an ant's thirst for water, insects hiding in the mud hole and particularly the bloody finger print having srilanka's map are some of the best shots. Music by Vishal chandrashekhar is okay for the few tracks. The background score & lyrics has its value at places.

DIRECTION :-

Story is taken from a girl's real life who lived there during the war and the dialogues in the film are straight from the heart. Screenplay by santosh sivan, zazy & sharanya is a clean observation of the attacks, human emotions and the sexual harassment happened to the girls from the documentaries while their screenwriting focused only on their life & sufferings eventhough a love relationship and some comedy factors are present in the movie. Santosh sivan's direction in which the central idea was not only for the tamils but also for the creatures other than humans and he visualized it with a maximum reality possible for a feature film.

VERDICT :-

"ON THE WHOLE, INAM IS A DISTINGUISHED FILM THAN ANY OTHER REAL SRILANKAN CIVIL WAR DOCUMENTARIES".

RATING :-   4/5
