CBFC :  U

GENRE :  Biography | Sports Drama

PLOT :-

The film opens in manipur which shows the early life of Mary Kom (Priyanka chopra) being raised from a poor agricultural family. From her childhood, she had an ultimate ambition of becoming a boxer. Inspite of her father's objection, mary kom joined in monnet boxing academy to learn the boxing techniques. On seeing her interest, Narjit singh (Sunil thapa) trained her by teaching the basic rules to become a boxer. Onler kom (Darshan kumar), a footballer encourages mary kom's sincere efforts to succeed in the field. After winning in the state & national level championships, mary kom gets her international recognition in turkey by achieving gold at the 2002 women's world boxing championship. Mary kom accepts onler's love and marries him but her coach was unhappy with the decision as the marriage will put an end card to her boxing career. The rest forms her difficulties as a mother of twin babies along with her final struggle to make a re-entry into the boxing life.

PERFORMANCES(ON-SCREEN):-

Priyanka Chopra ( Mary Kom ) lives as mary kom with her complete transformation and dedication to the role. She achieved in paying a tribute to the real star with a strengthy physique. Sunil Thapa ( Narjit singh ) acted as a coach by giving his energetic boost not only to mary kom but also for the film. Darshan kumar ( Onler kom ) brings the native manipurian's look in front to the audience. Shishir sharma, mary kom's father character and others gave their equivalent effort to showcase the personal life happenings of mary kom in a realistic manner.

  TECHNICAL :-

Rajesh G. Pandey's editing was okay. Vanita omung kumar's production design and Rob miller's sports action sequences gave the feel of watching an original match. Cinematography by Keiko Nakahara is top notch with the visuals from the hill stations and the lightings used in the indoor stage are the best camera works to be appreciated. Shashi-Shivam's Music is pleasing well with the mood of the film and the background score by Rohit kulkarni doesn't make a big impact unlike the kicking sounds.

SCRIPT & DIRECTION :-

Saiwyn quadras's story is more/less an adaptation of mary kom's life with some additional inserts. Dialogues by karan singh and ramendra were written accordingly to the places and situations. Screenplay by Saiwyn quadras is good other than the drama portions of mary kom's married life as they really didn't pull the attention of viewers. Debutant director Omung kumar misses in giving a wholesome entertainment like bhaag milkha bhaag which was also a sports drama but omung wins definitely as he never misses it in visualizing the only indian woman's history in the field of boxing.

VERDICT :-

" Mary Kom has the Essential Qualification to enter into the list of Well Made Bollywood Biopics "

RATING :-   3.5/5
